A series of oddities, tracks and demos from 2013-2023 from Roundhay Garden Scene.
2023 marks ten whole years of Roundhay Garden Scene as a project. When I started producing sample-based music I was a 17 year old frustrated drummer/film student who could never find the right words and couldn’t sing/play keys or guitar to express myself.
I decided to venture out, inspired by sample-based artists like The Books, The Avalanches, MF Doom, Fox + Sui, Neat Beats and more to breathe life into old sounds lost to time so they could be collaged into something new.
Over the course of 10 years the process of searching bargain bins for the right sounds on records and tapes, scouring films for the right words, I discovered how to find my voice and produce music. But I also discovered how to write music inspired by the mountains of old media I’d find.
As a 27 year-old I feel like I’ve outgrown/lost the spare time for this exhaustive production method (for the moment) as it involves sometimes years to finish a song or album. So for now I am venturing moreso into Dance Music and things easier to perform live as the ‘manager’ of cult leader/’80s Dance Icon S.Miles.
But as I have around 90-100 unreleased tracks and demos, I’ll be gifting 4x new releases throughout the year as a celebration of 10 years of Roundhay Garden Scene. This is the second instalment of these demos and these new releases, as well as the 5 other releases are available for free/pay what you like.
